Duke of Edinburgh's Award
The Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) programme (www.dofe.org/) is a real adventure from
beginning to end. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re
from.
You just
need to be aged between 14 and 24 years and realise there’s more to
life than sitting on a sofa watching life pass you by.
It offers an individual challenge and encourages young people to
undertake exciting, constructive, challenging and enjoyable
activities in their free time.
There are three levels which, upon completion, lead to a
Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
There are four sections to a DofE award (Five at Gold)
Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expeditions. (And at gold
level, Residential)
DofE centres are based in schools, colleges, universities, youth
clubs, voluntary organisations, such as Scouts, Guides and Air
Training Corps, open DofE centres, young offenders’ institutes and
many businesses. DofE centres are run by adults, many of whom are
volunteers, including youth workers, teachers, employers, trainers,
instructors, assessors and individuals from the community, all of
whom are keen to share their skills, enthusiasm and organising
abilities to help young people reach their potential.
Woodlands Open Award Centre (WOAC)
WOAC is run by experienced DofE staff and volunteers. Young
people who have completed their bronze come from around Medway to
train and prepare for their Silver and Gold expeditions.
WOAC can also support teams of young people wanting to
participate at Bronze too.
